How we work

Our Approach

A controlled sequence on every project, with safety and environmental control built into the plan. We start by listening to what the owner needs, then plan to the site, protect the people and the property, and stay close to the work. Each page below shows what the owner can expect at every stage, in plain terms.

Four principles

How we decide

Four decisions sit under every plan we write. They came from the field, and we apply them to the conditions of each site.

Plan before acting

Every project starts with listening to the owner and writing site-specific plans, which the owner reviews before we mobilize. The work that decides a project happens before the first piece of equipment moves, and time spent there costs far less than time spent correcting in the field.

In practiceAt NASA Marshall, before an 11-story building came down, we developed plans for accident prevention, health and safety, asbestos abatement, demolition, explosive demolition, engineering surveys, stormwater, site security, and restoration. The project finished on schedule with zero recordable incidents.

Certainty over speed

There is usually a faster way to do the work. We choose the way that is predictable, controlled, and documented, because a surprise on a regulated site costs more than a few days of schedule.

In practiceThe Fargo high-rise came down in seconds by implosion, but the schedule was built around what came first: removing asbestos, universal waste, refrigerants, PCB equipment, and fuel tanks, and submitting tests and reports on time. The project closed with 33,000 labor hours and zero OSHA incidents.

Adaptability

No two sites are the same, and conditions change after the contract is signed. We plan so the plan can change: people, permits, and equipment can be added without losing control of the schedule.

In practiceOn a tight downtown site in Florence, SC, we brought in temporary state-licensed abatement workers to hold the schedule and coordinated road and sidewalk closures with the state DOT, so an 8-story building could come down piece by piece.

Self-perform to stay in control

When the crews who built the plan also carry it out, there are fewer handoffs and fewer places for the plan to break. More than 80% of our work is self-performed.

In practiceAt MCAS Cherry Point, we self-performed 93% of the contract across 14 facilities, from abatement and demolition through site restoration.

Safety & Environmental

How training, environmental control, and compliance sit inside the plan and the schedule, and the proof behind them.

Project Delivery

The five steps every project follows, adjusted to the site: plan, review, mobilize, control, and close out.

About Us

Target Contractors, established in 2008, and the experienced leaders and field crews who self-perform most of the work.

Safety and compliance

Safety is personal, and it is part of the plan.

We are a family business, and we look after each other. Our team maintains OSHA certifications and trains every year through an in-house authorized trainer program. Safety and environmental control are written into the plan and the schedule from the first meeting. Because our crews self-perform most of the work, the people who carry out the safety plan are the people who helped build it. That keeps training, site rules, and environmental controls consistent from the first day on site to closeout.
